It’s Been a Long Time!

Wow, we haven’t blogged since the summer. Is anybody still out there? Things are going oky with us, but we’ve been busy.

We will try to post something this weekend bringing everybody up to speed.

2009 Waldwick Fireworks

Last night Christi and watched the 2009 Waldwick Lion’s Club fireworks from the Waldwick Train Station.  It’s only a few miles away and, in my opinion, gave us a better view than we would have gotten from the field.  In any event the view was great, except for the one train that interrupted us for about 30s.  I think I’m getting pretty good at shooting fireworks with my Canon PowerShot SD700 IS, so enjoy!

MacBook Pro

After many years wanting we finally got a MacBook Pro!  This thing is amazingly fast, much faster than our old Mini, and iPhoto is loving the speed.  This is the week of Apple: today MacBook Pro, and Friday iPhone 3G S!

SAVOR: An American Craft Beer & Food Experience

According to Uncle Ben I need to spend more time blogging, so here it goes.  Sorry we haven’t been blogging a lot lately, but you can keep up with us via Twitter: @ryanmaple and @christimaple.  It’s a lot easier for us to Tweet, which is kinda like “micro-blogging,” than it is for us to write up an entire blog.

This weekend we’re finally going to SAVOR.  You’ve heard us talk about it for many, many months now but it’s finally here!  Christi and I will both be tweeting from the event, at the National Building Museum in Washington, DC, so check our Twitter timelines to see what we think of the beer and food parirings.  With a list of brewers like this it should be a most epic time.  On our way down to DC we’re stopping off at school to have dinner (and a drink) at Iron Hill in Newark.  Looks like they have an American IPA on tap for the month of May, so here’s hoping it’s still there when we get there.

We’re staying with Christi’s friend from high school, Steph, who lives and works in DC.  Should be a really great time… I promise to blog when we get back with lots of pictures and reviews.

Cheers!

New York City Alumni Club Event

As you all know, Christi and I are “Double Del’s”, or both University of Delaware Alumni.  Every so often the UD Alumni Relations group holds little happy hours and, this time around, Christi and I decided to go and meet up with some friends we haven’t seen in a long time — since college, actually!

Since I work in Jersey City now it was really easy to meet up with Christi in the city.  We hunt out at Brother Jimmy’s until the open bar ended then made our way over to Stouts, where the real beer adventure began.

At the event I stuck with SNPA and the Abita Amber Lager.  You can’t go wrong with Sierra Nevada, but I wish more establishments knew that you cannot drink it out of the bottle as it is bottle conditioned.  The Abita was decent but nothing special.

Over at Stouts I had the opportuntiy to try two new beers: Dragon Stout by Desnoes & Geddes Limited (they’re from Jamaica!) and Shakespeare Stout from Rogue, whom we know and love.  Christi got a little mad at me when I ordered the bomber but oh well, she got over it :)   Both beers were excellent (again, you can’t go wrong with Rogue) but I was very pleasantly surprised by the Dragon Stout.  I tasted bourbon, as did Christi, which makes me think they age it in bourbon barrells… which is just awesome.  That beer was my favorite of the night.

Happy Friday everybody and enjoy the beautiful weather coming our way!

Quick Status Update

Hey there everybody, sorry again for the extended silence. Things are going well at my new job at Xceedium, Inc. in Jersey City. The commute is a big change (hence the blogging downtime) but I’ll get more used to it soon enough.

Hope to throw up more details over the weekend!

Sorry For The Silence!

Wow, haven’t blogged since the end of March… sorry about that.  Things have been crazy-busy so blogging has taken a backseat.  I’ll throw out a quick update now and hopefully resume a more regular blogging schedule sometime next week.

For those of you who haven’t yet heard, I got a new job!  I start on April 20th and will fill you all in on the position after I’ve started, once I’m sure how much about it I can talk about.  It’s in Jersey City which means I’ll become a commuter, but I look forward to two hours per day on the train to get work and reading done.

Our town has a train station park-and-ride but there is a 2 year waiting list, mostly because we’re the only town around that permits out-of-towners to get permits.  This kinda sucks — the least they could do is charge more for out of towners, or give residents precedence — but it is what it is.  I may bring this up at a council meeting someday but as of now it doesn’t really bother me enough yet.

Also this site is now being hosted elsewhere, as I’m leaving Guardian Digital, so please let me know ASAP if you notice any problems like broken links or bouncing email.  I’d really appreciate any feedback.

That’s it for now.  Hope you are all doing well, and have a great rest of the week!

To All You People Who Looked Up Your “Real Age”

You were duped.  How about you just exercise and eat right to begin with, and not worry what some computer algorithim thinks of your lifestyle?  Congratulations, you are now a pawn of The Drug Companies (TM).

We’re Seeing Phish Again! Twice!

Phish announced some more dates for their 2009 summer tour so, naturally, Christi and I put ourselves in the ticket lottery.  Two chances are better than one.  Thank goodness we did this because my requests got rejected but, just like the Hampton show, Christi’s was accepted!

Thus we are going to see Phish two more times this summer: August 14th at the Meadows Music Center in Hartford, CT and a few days later on August 16th at the Saratoga Performing Arts Center in Saratoga Springs, NY.

Their tour starts out June 4th at Jones Beach and ends at the SPAC show on August 16th so, assuming no more suprirised, we will be attending the last show of the tour.  How cool is that?

Friday Night Allman Brothers Show

It was incredible.  As was expected, Eric Clapton showed up, and we got Why Does Love Got To Be So Sad, Little Wing, and Layla as the encore.  For good measure we got another In Memory of Elizabeth Reed, one of my favorite songs, with Eric which was incredible.  The first set was sandwiched in a Mountain Jam which just rocked out!

Below is some video I took of the opening Mountain Jam. I got yelled at for taking video by the usher, my bad, so I didn’t take any more after this… but enjoy!

I would have loved to have seen Anyday with Susan Tedeschi, but this show was definitely the best.  A solid #2 on Ryan’s All-Time Concert List.

Have a good week everybody.
